Have you and your family been affected by a workplace tragedy? Talk to others who “get it.”
Workplace Tragedy Peer Support Group
Threads of Life’s community peer support groups offer a safe and compassionate space to share your thoughts, explore your feelings and connect with other people who are grieving due to a work-related death. Sessions will focus on healthy coping skills as together, participants learn to live with their loss.
“We felt understood and realised we were no longer alone on a difficult journey.”- a recent peer group participant
Each meeting explores a different theme, such as:
- Am I grieving normally?
- Coping with special days, anniversaries and holidays
- Taking care of yourself & practical day-to-day strategies
- Secondary losses & changing relationships
The small groups will meet for weekly sessions and are facilitated by trained volunteers who have also experienced a loss. Our peer facilitators are not professional counselors; rather they have experienced a workplace tragedy in their own family and are on a similar journey.
At Threads of Life we recognize that each family is unique as are the relationships to your loved one. Registration is open to two members per family and may include parents, step-parents, siblings, spouses, adult children or grandparents. Participants must be 18 years or older. There is no cost to attend however pre-registration is required.
Markham, ON – Starts October 23
A 6 week session will begin on October 23 at Markham Centennial Centre, 8600 McCowan Road, Markham, Ontario L3P 3M2. To attend this session, pre-register with Shirley Hickman at email@example.com or 1-888-567-9490.
Upcoming Peer Support Groups
Fall 2018/Winter 2019
We have trained peer support volunteers ready to offer a safe and supportive environment for family members who have experienced the death of a loved one at work. These facilitated sessions will offer participants the opportunity to share experiences and discuss feelings with others who truly understand, while offering healthy coping skills and learning to live with loss. All of our support groups are peer based, the volunteer facilitators are also family members who have experienced a similar loss. All participation is confidential.
Volunteers are in the process of determining interest and availability for peer support groups in the following communities during Fall 2018/Winter 2019. Community peer support groups are being planned for:
- Markham/Newmarket, ON – Markham session to begin October 23, 2018
