Five Things You Need to Know about Steps for Life 2022

These days, we could all use something to look forward to. Don’t worry, we’ve got you! Threads of Life volunteers and staff are spending the winter getting ready for Steps for Life-Walking for Families of Workplace Tragedy, 2022 edition. Registration opens next week, and we’re working to make sure Steps for Life is ready for anything.

Here are the key things you need to know about the 2022 event:

1. HOW CAN I PARTICIPATE IN STEPS FOR LIFE 2022?

Choices, choices! Most communities will have flexible events, with traditional in-person walks and virtual elements. And even if there is a traditional walk in your community, you can opt to do your own thing. You’ll see that option when you register. If there’s no walk near you, join our national online Steps for Life event.

2. HOW WILL IN-PERSON WALKS WORK? 

The health and safety of our volunteers and supporters is our top priority. Each event will follow all applicable local public health requirements or guidelines including mask use, physical distancing, gathering size and other health and safety practices. We encourage you to complete your fundraising online, or mail any cheques directly to the Threads of Life office.

3. WHAT IF THINGS CHANGE BETWEEN WHEN I REGISTER AND THE WALK DATE?

Local organizers will be monitoring conditions and health guidelines. The best way to stay up to date on plans is to check in with your community’s Steps for Life page. If a walk changes from in-person to virtual due to COVID or weather, we’ll post the information online. You can still fundraise as usual — we know you want to help!

4. IS THERE A REGISTRATION FEE? (AND WHAT ABOUT MY T-SHIRT?)

Registration for Steps for Life is by donation. Steps for Life is the main fundraiser for Threads of Life, so your gifts spread the prevention message and ensure those living with the outcomes of workplace tragedies know they are not alone. All participants who register for a park event will receive a t-shirt on walk day. For participants on teams of 4 or more who register online by April 1 to walk at home, and who have fundraised, we’ll ship your t-shirts to your team captain.

5. WHO IS HELPED BY THE MONEY I RAISE?

When you fundraise for Steps for Life, you’re helping Canadian families coping with work-related fatalities, serious injuries and illness. Every day in Canada, thousands more families are affected. Your support helps them heal and gives them a chance to speak up for prevention. Read about some of the families you’ve already helped.
