Threads of Life values the health and safety of our families, volunteers, participants and staff and will be monitoring the guidelines of Health Canada as well as provincial and regional jurisdictions, while making decisions regarding events and programs. Many of our programs and services proceed as usual. Following is additional information about current status and contingency plans:
Steps for Life – www.stepsforlife.ca
Thank you to all of our walkers, donors and sponsors for a remarkable Steps for Life this past May. In 2022, we plan to have in person events once again! The virtual option will remain, and wherever we are, #WeWalkTogether.
Family Forums – https://threadsoflife.ca/programs/upcoming-family-forums/
In the fall of 2020 Threads of Life held its first-ever National Virtual Family Forum, in lieu of our three regional forums. For 2021, we made the decision to move the Atlantic, Central, and Western Family Forums online. Registration is now open for the Western Virtual Family Forum (Sept. 24-26) and the Central Virtual Family Forum (Oct 22-24). Threads of Life reserves the right to make changes or cancellations as necessary. Session availability is dependant on registration numbers.
Speakers Bureau bookings and events
Requests for Threads of Life speakers at in-person events are being accepted and addressed case by case, based on the situation and restrictions in the jurisdiction where the event is being held. Threads of Life has requirements and protocols in place to safeguard the safety of our volunteers and client audiences. We also have a number of speaker volunteers trained and willing to share their stories via virtual platforms.
Threads of Life has traditionally held in-person training for new speaker volunteers and for Volunteer Family Guides, in the first quarter of the year. These in-person training sessions will not be held in 2021. We are discussing plans for some online training for volunteers, and hope to return to in-person training in 2022.
If you have any questions about any of these measures, please contact Shirley Hickman, Threads of Life Executive Director, [email protected] or 888-567-9490.
On Our Blog:
Vision 2020: a term to express visual acuity (the clarity or sharpness of vision). In 2019 our staff team thought the theme of ‘2020’ would be a fun one for the coming year. Our staff meeting in January 2020 held out all kinds of possibilities, including fun activities as we finalized our plans for the year. Our over-arching theme was the challenge: how do we reach 300 new family members each year? Steps for Life was ready to launch in another week. Little did we know the storm that was about to challenge us.
