like I was saying goodbye
to family, and I guess,
in our own unique way,
we are a family.” ~ first time participant, 2012
About the Family Forums
Threads of Life held its first forum in 2005. As Threads of Life grew across the country, the national Family Forum divided into three Regional Family Forums, which are now held in Western, Central, and Atlantic Canada to reach more families. Family Forums offer families affected by a workplace tragedy the opportunity to come together to share, network and, ultimately, heal. At this special event, spouses, parents, siblings and close friends gather to learn coping skills for grief, active listening skills, tips on how the occupational health and safety system works, self-care, and so much more. This year through the generosity of our donors and supporters, with proceeds from the annual Steps for Life fundraising, we are able to offer four immediate family members accommodations, meals and registration.“After going back and forth, I decided to go. I attended all the sessions and workshops I could. When it was time to leave for home I was saddened because wonderful people had made me feel at home and made me comfortable in a strange place. Thank you. I needed this.” ~ George Stubbart, NS
“It was a weekend filled with love and hope, tears and pain, but optimism as well for a future. I learned to let some things go that I have been carrying around on my shoulders – to forgive myself for not being able to save [my brother] that night. I cannot tell you how valuable it was for me to feel like I was in a safe place. A place where I could feel whatever I feel without guilt, without shame … just acceptance.” ~ first time participant, 2012
